Mount Fuji has only erupted 16 times since 1707 and the last eruption was 305 years ago. The most damage caused by Mount Fuji was in 1707 on the 26th October there was a magnitude 8.4 earthquake hit Honshu, Japan. After this there were several smaller earthquakes around Mt Fuji. An eruption began on 16th December 2 months later were pumice fell. After 6 hours the pumice fall changed to scoria fall. On the first day of the eruption, 72 houses and 3 Buddhist temples were destroyed in the town of Subassiri 10 km from the volcano. Violent eruptions were recorded between 25-27 December a couple days after the main eruption. The eruption ended on 1st January 1708. No lava flows were formed during the eruption. The total volume erupted over 16 days was 0.68 km2 of dense rock.
