If Mount Fuji erupted it could effect the lives of over 8 million people in Tokyo and nearby areas, as well as destroy roads and railways connecting some of Japan’s most populated cities.
legends of mount fuji
Fuji means "a wealthy person with status".
Japan's oldest recorded story claims that Fuji means immortality (the ability to live forever). This a passage from one of Japans oldest fiction story's, 'When the Emperor receives the letter and gift he is too depressed to drink the elixir of immortality. He doesn't want to live without her. The Emperor writes her a letter. He tells his men to burn it together with the elixir of immortality on Japan's highest peak (Mount Fuji) so that it might reach the moon. The men follow his orders. To their surprise, once they light the elixir of immortality on fire it never stops burning.' The story suggests this is how Mount Fuji became volcanic. http://www.japan-talk.com/jt/new/tale-of-the-bamboo-cutter
